The Aline assistant for Microsoft Teams puts Aline's contract workflows inside Teams — launch a template, fill in its intake form, and ask questions about your contracts without leaving Teams. Every request lands in Aline as a workflow your legal team can pick up. Setup mirrors the Slack app: a one-time connection done by an Aline admin. The Teams assistant shipped in Release 800.
This guide covers setup. For the Slack equivalent, see Aline for Slack: Setting Up the Slack App.
Who Does What
Aline admin — connects Teams to Aline. Only Aline admins can do this.
Microsoft 365 / Teams admin — approves the Aline app, if your organization requires admin approval for new Teams apps.
Requesters — launch workflows and ask questions from Teams. They need a Basic seat or higher in Aline, and nothing else to set up.
Before You Start
Matching emails. Aline matches people by email, so each person's Teams email should match the email they use to log in to Aline.
Seats. Launching a workflow from Teams needs at least a Basic seat — the same as launching in Aline. See Account Types in Aline (Admin, Full, Basic, Viewer).
Published templates. Requesters can only launch templates that already exist in Aline. Build and publish them before you roll Teams out.
Step 1: (Teams) Approve the Aline App, If Required
Some organizations only allow Teams apps that IT has approved. If yours does, loop in your Microsoft 365 / Teams admin before you connect, so the setup doesn't stall. If your organization lets members add apps, skip to Step 2.
Step 2: (Aline) Connect Microsoft Teams
Sign in to Aline as an admin and open Admin & Settings → Integrations.
Click Channels in the left menu under Integrations.
Choose Microsoft Teams and follow the prompts to sign in to Microsoft and approve the permissions.
You only do this once per Teams tenant.
📷 Screenshot suggestion: the Channels screen and the Microsoft Teams connect button. The Slack equivalent is "Add to Slack" — confirm the exact Teams button label and connect flow in-app before publishing.
Step 3: (Teams) Find Aline and Add It Where Requests Happen
Open Teams and search for Aline in Apps.
Add Aline to the channels where people will make requests, such as a legal-requests channel. You can also message Aline directly to keep a request private.
Step 4: Launch a Test Workflow
In a channel where you added Aline, or in a direct message, describe what you need (for example, "I need an NDA") or start a template launch.
Pick the template Aline suggests, fill out the intake form in Teams and submit it.
In Aline, open Workflows — the new workflow is there, launched from Teams, with the completed intake attached.
Troubleshooting
You can't connect Teams. Only Aline admins can connect it — ask an Aline admin to do Step 2.
Teams says the app needs approval. Your organization restricts app installs — ask your Microsoft 365 / Teams admin to approve Aline, then connect again.
Aline doesn't recognize someone, or they can't launch a workflow. Check that their Teams email matches their Aline login and that they have a Basic seat or higher.
💡 Best Practices
Talk to your Teams admin before connecting, so an approval step doesn't hold you up.
Make at least two people Aline admins, so someone can always reconnect Teams.
Invite people to Aline with the same email they use in Teams.
Decide where requests should go — a shared channel for one source of truth, or a direct message for privacy.
