The Aline Slack app puts Aline's contract workflows inside Slack. Once it's set up, anyone on your team can launch an Aline template, fill out its intake form, and ask questions about your contracts without leaving Slack. Every request lands in Aline as a workflow your legal team can pick up.
Setup is a one-time connection per Slack workspace, done by an Aline admin. If your company restricts which apps can be installed in Slack, your Slack workspace admin approves the Aline app first. There's no package to install and no credentials to copy or paste. This guide covers setup only. For what your team can do once Aline is connected, see Aline AI is Now in Slack.
Who Does What
Aline admin. Connects Slack to Aline (Step 2). Only Aline Admins can click Add to Slack.
Slack workspace admin. Approves the Aline app (Step 1). Only needed if your Slack workspace requires admin approval for new apps.
Requesters. Launch workflows and ask questions from Slack. No setup on their side beyond a Basic seat or higher in Aline.
Before You Start
Matching emails. Aline matches people by email, so each person's Slack email should match the email they use to log in to Aline.
Seats. Launching a workflow from Slack requires at least a Basic seat, the same as launching in Aline. See Account Types in Aline (Admin, Full, Basic, Viewer).
Published templates. Requesters can only launch templates that exist in Aline. Build and publish the templates you want people to use before you roll Slack out.
Step 1: (Slack) Approve the Aline App, If Required
Some companies only allow Slack apps that IT has approved. If yours does, loop in your Slack workspace admin before you click Add to Slack, so the connection doesn't stall halfway. If your workspace lets members install apps, skip to Step 2.
Step 2: (Aline) Connect Slack
Sign in to Aline as an admin and open Admin & Settings → Integrations
Click Channels in the left menu under Integrations
Click Add to Slack
Sign in to Slack if prompted, and make sure the workspace you want to connect is selected.
Review the permissions and click Allow
You'll land back in Aline with your Slack workspace connected
You only do this once per Slack workspace.
What the Aline App Can Access
Slack's permission screen lists what the Aline app asks for. Share this with your IT or security team if they need to review it. The Aline app can:
See messages that @mention Aline
Read messages in the channels and private channels Aline has been added to, and in direct messages with Aline
Post messages and replies as Aline
Add the /launch-template slash command
See people's basic profile details and email addresses, so it can match each Slack user to their Aline account
Step 3: (Slack) Find the Aline App
Open Slack
Look for Aline in the Agents & Apps section of your sidebar
If you don't see it, click the search bar or Browse apps and search for Aline
You can message Aline directly from here. A direct message keeps a request private.
Step 4: (Slack) Add Aline to Your Channels
Aline only reads and replies in channels it's a member of, so add it to every channel where people will make requests, such as a #legal-requests channel.
Open the channel. Public and private channels both work
Type @Aline followed by your message and send it
If Aline isn't in the channel yet, Slack asks whether to add it. Click Add to Channel
You can also type /invite @Aline in the channel. [
In channels, start each message to Aline with @Aline so it knows the message is for it.
Step 5: (Slack) Launch a Test Workflow
Time to smoke-test it.
In a channel where you added Aline, or in a direct message with Aline, do one of these:
Type @Aline and describe what you need, for example "I need an NDA"
Type /launch-template, select the command, then press Enter to send it
Pick the template Aline suggests, or choose another
Fill out the intake form in Slack and submit it. The form shows the same questions as the template's intake form in Aline
In Aline, open Workflows. The new workflow is there, launched from Slack, with the completed intake attached
Once that works, your team is ready to go. See Aline AI is Now in Slack for everything they can do next.
Troubleshooting
The Add to Slack button is missing or greyed out.
Only Aline Admins can connect Slack. Ask an Aline admin to do Step 2.
You see an "Unauthorized" page after clicking Add to Slack.
Log out of Aline, log back in, and try again.
Slack says the app needs approval.
Your workspace restricts app installs. Ask your Slack workspace admin to approve Aline (Step 1), then click Add to Slack again.
Aline doesn't respond in a channel.
Add Aline to the channel (Step 4) and start your message with @Aline.
/launch-template doesn't appear.
Workspaces connected before slash commands were released in mid-September 2026 need to reinstall the app. Remove the Aline app from your Slack workspace, then repeat Step 2.
/launch-template appears but nothing happens.
After you select the command, press Enter to send the message.
Aline doesn't recognize someone, or they can't launch a workflow.
Check that their Slack email matches their Aline login, and that they have a Basic seat or higher. Invite them to Aline with the same email they use in Slack.
Best Practices
💡 Talk to your Slack workspace admin before you click Add to Slack, so an approval step doesn't hold you up.
💡 Make at least two people Aline admins, so someone can always reconnect Slack.
💡 Invite people to Aline with the same email they use in Slack.
💡 Test in a private channel first, then roll out to the team.
💡 Decide where requests should go. A shared channel like #legal-requests gives everyone one source of truth; a direct message with Aline keeps a request private.
