Building AI Playbooks

Playbooks help you automate document reviews, apply internal rules, and maintain consistency across your agreements.

Step 1: Upload Your Template or Internal Rulebook

  1. From your Aline workspace, click Documents.

  2. If you already have a template (e.g., an NDA) or an internal rulebook/checklist, upload it here:

    • Click New DocumentUpload Draft.

  3. Open the file you’d like to use — for this example, we’ll use an NDA template.

💡 You can use either a contract template (like an NDA) or a rulebook with internal guidelines. Both work the same way in Playbooks.

Step 2: Generate a Playbook

  1. With your document open, click Playbooks in the toolbar.

  2. Select Generate Playbook.

  3. Choose the party you represent — for example:

    • Entity Name (e.g., “Aline, Inc.”), or

    • Role (e.g., “Company,” “Bank,” etc.).

  4. In the prompt, describe your document.

    • Example: “This is my NDA template. I want to create a playbook for future review.”

You can also include favorable positions or additional guidance if you want the AI to factor in specific preferences — though it’s optional.

Once generated, your Playbook will appear in blue under the document list.

Step 3: Review and Edit Rules

Before using your Playbook for third-party review, always review the rules that were generated:

  • Click on each rule to open it.

  • Delete any rules you don’t need.

  • Edit rules directly by clicking the Edit button.

Pro Tip: Examine each rule carefully the first time you create a Playbook. This ensures the AI understands your preferred positions and review logic.

Step 4: Check Playbook Results

When you run the Playbook on a document:

  • Clauses will be marked as “Passes” or “Needs Review.”

  • Click on the gray box to view the original text citation being reviewed.

  • Clauses that need review may include:

    • Additions (new clauses suggested by AI)

    • Redlines (edits suggested within the text)

You can then:

  • Accept or Reject the suggested changes, and

  • Adjust categories if needed.

Step 5: Use Suggesting Mode for Redlines

When reviewing redlines:

  • Switch to Suggesting Mode (redlines will appear as tracked changes).

  • Avoid Editing Mode, as that will apply changes directly in final form.

Step 6: Finalize and Share Your Playbook

Once satisfied:

  1. Download the reviewed document, or

  2. Collaborate directly in Aline:

    • Tag internal or external teammates (e.g., @Brant Paris) to request feedback.

    • Set collaborator permissions to Read, Comment, or Edit.

Tagged users will receive an email notification for review.

Summary

Building Playbooks in Aline allows you to:

  • Standardize reviews with your own templates or rules.

  • Automatically identify key clauses and deviations.

  • Collaborate seamlessly with your team or third parties.

Once you’ve refined your Playbook, you’ll be able to review new documents quickly and consistently — saving hours of manual work.
