Overview

With AI Redlining in Aline Associate, you can:

  • Compare third-party agreements against your templates

  • Identify substantive legal differences

  • Automatically generate redlines

  • Refine edits with follow-up AI instructions

  • Review, accept, reject, or keep redlines individually

The AI writes edits live into the document, making contract negotiation significantly faster and more collaborative.

Step 1: Open Your Third-Party Agreement

Start by opening the agreement you want to review.

Example:

  • A third-party NDA uploaded into the document editor

This will serve as the agreement Aline AI analyzes and redlines.

Step 2: Attach Your Template Agreement (optional)

Next, attach your preferred template agreement to the AI Chat.

For example:

  • Attach your organization’s standard NDA template

This gives the AI a comparison baseline for identifying differences and suggesting edits.

Step 3: Write Your Redlining Prompt

Enter a prompt instructing the AI what to do.

Example prompt:

“Compare this third-party NDA to my attached template, identify the substantive legal differences, and redline this NDA to be more consistent with my template NDA in legal substance. Make the minimal edits possible to achieve the goal.”

Once submitted, Aline AI will:

  1. Analyze both agreements

  2. Compare legal provisions

  3. Identify substantive differences

  4. Generate proposed edits

Step 4: Review the AI Comparison Analysis

Before redlining begins, Aline AI generates a detailed comparison summary.

Examples include:

  • Confidential information definitions

  • Mutual vs. one-sided obligations

  • Return/destruction provisions

  • Governing law differences

The AI presents:

  • Material legal differences

  • Risk areas

  • Recommended changes

Step 5: Watch AI Write Redlines Live

After analysis, the AI transitions into editing mode.

Aline will:

  • Insert redlines directly into the document

  • Write edits live on the page

  • Highlight proposed changes in real time

💡 The toolbar at the top tracks which edit is currently selected and how many edits remain.

Step 6: Review and Process Redlines

For each AI-generated edit, you have three options:

Option

Description

Reject

Remove the AI-generated change

Accept

Accept all track changes permanently

Keep Redlines

Keep the edits as tracked redlines for review

✅ “Keep Redlines” is the most commonly used option because it preserves the negotiation history while allowing human review.

Step 7: Refine AI Edits

If the AI gets close — but not exactly right — you can refine the edits.

Example:

“Great edits, but make confirmation of destruction 30 days.”

Aline AI will:

  • Preserve the rest of the edits

  • Modify only the requested section

  • Rewrite the updated language live in the document

This creates a fast, iterative editing workflow.

Step 8: Edit Specific Clauses or Selections

You can also highlight specific sections of text and ask the AI to revise only those sections.

Example requests:

  • “Can you make these warranties stronger?”

  • “Revise this clause to match Delaware law.”

  • “Align this section with my template NDA.”

To do this:

  1. Highlight text in the document

  2. Click the ⭐ AI toolbar button

  3. Enter your request

The AI will:

  • Analyze only the selected text

  • Generate targeted redlines

  • Insert edits directly into the document

Step 9: View Legal Reasoning Behind Edits

For each proposed change, you can also:

  • View the AI’s legal reasoning

  • Understand why the edit was recommended

  • Review the supporting analysis before keeping the redline

This makes AI-assisted negotiation more transparent and defensible.
