How to Add and Customize Fields in Aline Templates

You can customize fields in Aline from:

  • A Template, or

  • A Workflow that includes a document being sent for signature

All fields in Aline are fully customizable, giving you flexibility to tailor documents to your exact needs.

Step 1: Open a Template or Workflow Document

  1. Navigate to Templates or Workflows in Aline.

  2. Open the template or workflow that contains the document you want to edit.

  3. Open the document to enter editing mode.

Step 2: Edit an Existing Field

If you want to update a field that already exists:

  1. Click Edit while viewing the document.

  2. Select the field you want to modify.

  3. Reassign the recipient if needed:

    • Counterparty

    • Internal signer

  4. Update the field name or placement as required.

💡 Tip: Field ownership determines who can complete the field during signing, so double-check recipient assignments.

Step 3: Add New Fields

To add a new field:

  1. Click the plus (+) button on the right-hand side of the document.

  2. Select the signer the field should belong to.

    • If someone is already selected, you may need to clear the selection to view all available signers.

  3. Drag and drop the field onto the document — just like in any standard e-signature platform.

  4. Rename the field (for example, Address, Company Name, or Effective Date).

Step 4: Choose the Right Field Type

Aline supports multiple field types, all of which are customizable:

  • Text fields (fully custom — no preset labels like “Name” or “Email”)

  • Dropdown fields

  • Radio buttons

  • Signature blocks

✅ Because all text fields are custom, you have complete control over field naming and formatting.

Step 5: Confirm the Correct Signer

Before finishing:

  1. Make sure each field is assigned to the correct signatory.

  2. Confirm placement and formatting.

  3. Save your changes.

Once saved, the document is ready to be sent for signature.
