Dynamic blocks let you show or hide sections of a template's text based on how a requester answers a question in the intake form. Instead of building separate templates for every variation, you configure one template that adapts itself.
This works across every launch channel — Aline, Slack, Salesforce, and HubSpot.
With dynamic blocks, you can:
Show or hide entire sections of contract text based on an intake answer
Include or exclude exhibits, such as marketing terms, an SOW, or your Terms of Service
Build one reusable template instead of many near-duplicate ones
Control who's allowed to change those answers, based on requester permissions
Prerequisites
A template with dynamic blocks already configured. Setting up the conditional logic is an admin-level task — this article covers using it as a requester. If you need to configure dynamic blocks on a template, see Setting Up Dynamic Blocks in Templates (below).
Requester permissions determine whether you can change the conditional answer yourself or whether it's locked to a default. Check with your admin if you don't see the option you expect.
Step 1: Fill Out the Required Intake Fields
Start the template as you normally would — from Aline, Slack, Salesforce, or HubSpot — and fill in the required fields.
Step 2: Answer the Conditional Question
Somewhere in the intake form, you'll see a question tied to a dynamic block — for example, whether to include or exclude a specific exhibit. Common examples include:
Marketing terms
A Statement of Work (SOW)
Your Terms of Service
Any other exhibit your team has configured
Select Include or Exclude (or the relevant option for your template — a template can have more than one conditional block, and the logic can be more complex than a simple toggle).
💡 Depending on your permissions, this option may be locked by an admin rather than editable by you as the requester.
Step 3: Continue — the Document Updates Automatically
Hit Continue. If you selected Include, that exhibit's text appears in the generated document automatically. If you selected Exclude, it's left out — no manual editing required.
From here, the process continues normally: approvals route as configured, and if a task is an AI task assigned to a reviewer, that reviewer is notified.
Known Limitations
Once a workflow has launched, changing a conditional answer typically requires restarting the intake — check with your admin on your team's process for corrections.
Complex, multi-condition logic (more than a simple include/exclude toggle) is supported, but should be planned out with your admin before building the template.
FAQ
Why can't I see the include/exclude option on my template?
Your permissions may not allow editing that field, or the template may have it set to a fixed default. Check with your admin.
Can a template have more than one dynamic block?
Yes — a template can include multiple conditional questions, each controlling a different section or exhibit.
Does this work the same way in Slack, Salesforce, and HubSpot as it does in Aline?
Yes — the conditional logic is part of the template itself, so it behaves the same regardless of where the request was launched.
Summary
Dynamic blocks let a single template adapt its contract text based on how the intake form is answered — for example, including or excluding an exhibit like marketing terms, an SOW, or your Terms of Service. It works the same way whether the request is launched from Aline, Slack, Salesforce, or HubSpot, so your team can maintain one template instead of many variations.
